Personalized Couples Intensive Retreat with Dr. Julie Quimby
Spending personalized private time together in intensive couples therapy will help jump start your marriage and take it to new levels of emotional connectivity. Often what takes months of couples therapy is done within a few days. Couples find new hope, understanding, and the feelings of togetherness they have been so desperately missing.
For couples who cannot schedule weekly sessions, who reside several hours away, or who are eager to get a handle on the negative patterns that in their relationship, this format is an excellent option.
Intensive sessions immerse in the couple in the therapy process and often result in big strides in less time. As with all therapies, results cannot be guaranteed. “My focus for the 2-days with each couple is to be fully available and immersed in the process, and to dedicate myself fully to your goal and to the higher mission to help create more safety and emotional connection in your relationship. ~ Julie Quimby, Ph.D.
Research tells us that all couples experience distress when they get disconnected from one another. This is normal! We also know that happily partnered couples know how to repair effectively. Intensive couples therapy teaches you this skill and results in you feeling stronger and closer than ever.
If requested, I provide a complimentary screening process with couples via a HIPAA secure long-distance video chat service to determine whether this option is a good fit for you.
How it works:
You will meet with the therapist over 2 days. Here is the basic schedule:
Day 1 – 6-7 hours total (1.5-2 hour initial couple evaluation; 1 hour focused on each partner for initial assessment, then a 2.5-3 hour couple session.)
Day 2 – 6 hours total: 3 hours in the a.m. and 2.5-3 hours in the p.m.
Julie is available for periodic follow-ups and mini retreats (half or full day sessions), although having someone in your local community is most helpful.
Intensives are Not Appropriate for All Couples.
Consider these conditions before making the commitment:
Julie works with couples recovering and healing from an affair, but when a partner is in an ongoing affair, intensives are not recommended.
Intensives are not recommended for couples in abusive relationships. Specifically, domestic violence, particularly where there are behaviors such as hitting, insulting, threatening physical harm, and screaming and other dangerous and/or intimidating behaviors (beyond the angry yelling that many couples experience in their negative cycles or arguments). We can talk about this together before the intensive.
Couples who for whatever reason cannot be together for sessions over 2 or 3 Days in a productive manner. Julie is a supportive therapist who will help create safety and useful dialogue in sessions. However, Intensives are not for venting, complaining, attacking, or one-sided conversation for 2 days. We dive in and do collaborative, meaningful, and beneficial work together.
before we get started
Intensives work best when you create a retreat experience. Book a hotel or B&B, take time off work, and really get away with each other.
Read or listen to “Hold Me Tight” or “Love Sense” by Susan Johnson.
Complete the intake questionnaires individually.
Scheduling and Location
Couples intensives are completed in a private therapy office in Brunswick, a quaint coastal town in Midcoast Maine. It is best if each partner is freed up from work demands and able to focus the two days on your relationship. To schedule this intensive work, please submit request for a consultation here.
You might ask, “Is it worth it?”
You are investing in saving your marriage, your family, and the life you worked so hard to build together. Relationship endings are not only costly emotionally, but also financially, due to the high cost of divorce attorneys, moving, therapy, child support, and more. Your marriage deserves the best possible help and Dr. Quimby can give that to you.
