Kathleen Hart, Ph. D. received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Boston College. She completed her graduate clinical training at The Judge Baker Clinic at The Children’s Hospital of Boston and at The Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and her predoctoral training at The Children’s Hospital of Colorado. Before starting her private practice, Dr. Hart worked at Bethesda Hospital in Englewood, Colorado on the Eating and Substance Use Disorder units.
A licensed psychologist for over 15 years in Falmouth, Maine, Dr. Hart specializes in treating Eating Disorders. She works with children, adolescents, men and women with eating disorders including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Compulsive Overeating, OCD-related Eating disorders and other eating-related issues. She also works with individuals with Body Dysmorphic Disorder and Substance Use Disorders in conjunction with eating issues. Dr. Hart uses a variety of treatment modalities depending on the needs of the client. These include: Family-Based Treatment (including the Maudsley Method), Acceptance Commitment Therapy, mindfulness training, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Hart has given numerous talks on Eating Disorders and has been the Keynote speaker at a training conference on Eating Disorders.
Eating disorders and eating-related issues are often co-morbid with anxiety, depression and substance use disorders. This half-day conference is designed for you to learn the fundamentals and basic working knowledge of Eating Disorders. You will learn how to to screen and assess for Eating Disorders and disordered eating. You will learn what level of care is needed for your client. You will learn how to develop a basic treatment plan and determine what treatment tools work best for different Eating Disorders. Last, you will learn to develop a meal plan with your clients with eating disorders and practice meal planning.
Gain a thorough introduction to eating disorders
Learn to identify unsafe eating disorder behaviors and physical complications associated with eating disorders
Learn to screen for eating disorders and disordered eating
Discuss how to address client’s ambivalence towards making a change
Develop a basic eating disorder treatment plan
Understand and learn to implement basic outpatient treatment tools to use with clients with eating disorders
Learn and gain some experience implementing meal planning
Learn how to assess the level of care needed for clients with eating disorders and when to refer to a higher level of care
