About Me

No one chooses to suffer. When life makes us shrink away from who we really are, we live in pain. As a counselor, I strive to help you feel the most like yourself in reaching your life goals. My work will center on the stories, strengths, and resilience that you and your communities hold.

As a first-generation Korean immigrant and the able-bodied sister of a brother with a disability, I have learned that change begins when stories are being told and truly heard. You may be ready to talk about your struggles or you may be hesitant, but wherever you are, I would be honored to create a space for your story to be told and heard.

More About My Practice

I create room for flexibility wherein science, stories, and arts synergize to meet your needs. My counseling approach is drawn from Psychodynamic and Relational Cultural Therapy. I blend these approaches with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy as needed. This means I will work with you on building awareness to the deeper roots of your worst pain, noticing patterns, and arriving to the answers you seek. Throughout my practice I strive to open conversations about how your environments help or cut off your ability to live with dignity and respect.

I provide service both in English and Korean.

My Specialties

I work with adults who struggle with a range of life challenges or the impacts of marginalization. I appreciate exploring together what it is like to be a person of color, immigrant, refugee, international student, or LGBTQ+ community member in Maine. Helpers also need help. I enjoy providing support for those who are in helping professions. I also facilitate a support group for women of color.

Additionally, I am a psychology professor at Bates College. In this role, I specialize in teaching and doing research on culture, intersecting identity, and oppression in relation to mental health, work psychology, and community-based programming with underserved youth and families.
