Although the experience of grief and loss is universal, individuals can cope with the experience in a range of ways. Some feel they are, with time, able to accept the loss and progress in life. Others, however, can feel stuck and suffer greatly leading to the development of prolonged grief disorder. Prolonged Grief (PG), formerly referred to as “complicated grief” is a disorder that was approved for inclusion in the DSM-V, and is growing in understanding and study. In addition, prolonged grief therapy (PGT) has shown great promise in successfully alleviating symptoms of prolonged, intense grief.

This workshop will introduce participants to the symptoms and course of prolonged grief as well as the PGT model and components of treatment. Attendees will leave this training with a basic understanding of PG and PGT and specific skills they can employ in their care of patients with grief.
